Highland Yard 5K and 10K

Highland Yard 5k and 10k
If you haven’t been to Minden…check it out! It is a beautiful little town nestled in the Haliburton Highlands and directly on the route to the heart of Muskoka. The race itself was well attended with almost 300 participants. Nick Best of Victoria ran the 10K in a very fast 35:09 and Dan Tripp of Belleville hammered out the 5K in 16:52.
Sara Sterling of Raceworks (www.raceworks.ca) ran another great event and it was very well managed by a tonne of volunteers. Say one thing about small town life and that is that EVERYONE gets involved.
For me, I drove up Friday, covered the event and then retired to a really nice little motel just up the road from Minden. My work on the road takes me to a lot of motels and hotels. The Highlands Motel passed all my usual tests with flying colours. It is a family run facility, extremely clean, well kept, nicely rustic in decorating with many of the features motels don’t offer like very fast high speed Internet and a nice cold fridge in the room. It is also a very short walk from the 12 Mile Lake Public Beach. If you’re going up that way…make a stop!
Next up is some coverage of the Canadian Junior Women’s Fastball Championship and then next weekend is the always amazing Half Iron in Bracebridge along with some sprint races and the First Annual Bracebridge Kid’s of Steel.
In happiness and health as always!
