The Boxing Day Ten Miler

I absolutely love the fact that it is the end of December and I am still shooting running events!!! The Boxing Day Ten Miler is an Historic Race in its 89th YEAR!!!! It starts and finishes in Downtown Hamilton Ontario and boasts a field of top racers all competing for their share of a $2500.00 cash purse.
This year the weather was unsettled but managed to hold off all day. A little light rain at first turned into nothing more than overcast skies and temperatures hovering around the freezing point.
The First Overall Male was Eric Gillis in an unreal time of 50:10! The First overall Female was won by Tara Quinn-Smith who decimated the course in 57:12 and was also 9th overall in a race full of top flight runners both male and female!
Race Director James van Dyke and his entire crew are to be congratulated for providing a fantastic event in a great location with complete and total success.
I can’t think of much else that I would rather do on Boxing Day than cover a great event like this. It sure beats fighting the crowds at the Mall and still allows me the rest of the day to enjoy hanging out with my family!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!
