20-Pound Challenge

Roger’s World – Monday November 2, 2009

I am one of those that believe in having a period of time to recuperate, rejuvenate, enjoy the other good things in life, and to get a bit out of shape – ok, maybe a lot out of shape. That way I make sure I don’t burn out (from training year-round), work myself back into race shape, and be ready and eager to race when the season comes around again in June, hopefully peaking at the right time for my ‘A’ races.

After some planned downtime, roughly two months from the end of my triathlon/duathlon season, it is now time to get back at it. Before doing that of course, I had to sneak in another one of those crazy Mile races (I was a bit faster this time – 8:40).

So with the start of a new month, and for those who need to shed a few pounds, I offer this challenge – Lose 20 pounds by April 5th. This gives you 22 weeks to get the job done.

I realize that not everyone needs to lose 20 pounds, so set your own goals. I need the full 20, so I am putting this out in public because it makes me more accountable and I think it will be fun. I did something like this a few years ago and it worked like a charm. If you are going for the 20 pound weight loss, the 22 weeks gives everyone a manageable pound a week weight loss goal, with a few weeks to slack off (Christmas & New Year’s Celebrations might be a challenge).

So if you are willing to join me, post a reply here, and keep us updated with a reply to my weekly column post. Or you can follow offline, but please do post, it is amazing how this public accountability works.

To help with this 20-Pound Challenge, feel free to join me with my Ride Everyday in November Challenge (http://www.teamrunningfree.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=549), or join Mike Cheliak for his 30 runs in 30 days challenge. I will have few more mini challenges throughout the year to help us get through this one.

Let’s get it on!
