Invictus

I saw this film on the weekend and it was great. Inspired by the message in the film, I thought I’d include the poem that the film’s title was derived from. Nelson Mandela also used to motivate himself and passed this onto the South African Rugby team – especially those last two lines.

Invictus
By William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

My 20lb Challenge Update – 184.5 lbs. I took a puck off the shin on the weekend so I hope this does not affect my training this week. I’m taking another day off to let the pain and swelling go down.

Saw my newborn nephew a few days ago and being the proud Uncle I am, I will of course proclaim he is the cutest kid ever. Honestly, the kid as some long limbs and big feet, definitely a triathlete in the making.

Have a great week!
